Whether you want just enough moves for a casual night out or you want to take dancing to the next level, our Country Swing Fundamentals series is for you! With five comprehensive and well-structured levels to progress through, our Fundamentals series makes learning fun and easy. Not only will you feel confident and proficient in your dancing, but you'll become part of one of the best dance communities in the country!

All students begin with Fundamentals Level 1 unless they have equivalent private lessons experience or have completed a skills assessment with a Turn Their Heads instructor. If you're unsure which Fundamentals level is the best fit, contact us—we'll be happy to help place you in the right class.

Fundamentals 1

Learn to Dance

Our philosophy is simple: get you dancing from day one. Fundamentals 1 is designed for complete beginners and teaches the essential skills you'll need to feel comfortable on the dance floor right away.

Over four weeks you'll learn the core footwork, connection, etiquette, and concepts that make Country Swing work. You'll also master 11+ foundational moves and variations, including underpasses, cuddles, free spins, and your first safe dip, giving you the confidence to dance with almost anyone.

Fundamentals 1 is the starting point for the rest of our Fundamentals series, but it's also a complete experience on its own. Even if this is the only class you ever take, you'll leave with the skills and confidence to enjoy dancing at weddings, bars, parties, or even in your own kitchen for the rest of your life.

Fundamentals 1 meets Mondays 6:30–8:00 PM and begins the first Monday of every month.

Completion of Fundamentals 1 (or equivalent private lesson experience) is required before advancing.

Fundamentals 2

Expand Your Repertoire

In Fundamentals 2, we introduce new hand connections, directional changes, and the first slotted movement patterns to your Country Swing.

You'll learn 10+ new movements, including barrel rolls, drapes, open dips, sweetheart entrances and exits, and outside turns while improving timing, flow, and connection.

By the end of the course you'll have significantly more variety in your dancing and the confidence to combine movements naturally.

Fundamentals 2 meets Tuesdays 7:00–8:00 PM for four weeks during January, March, May, July, September, and November.

Prerequisite: Fundamentals 1, equivalent private lesson experience, or a skills assessment with a Turn Their Heads instructor. Contact us for more info.

Fundamentals 3

Closed Position and The Slot

Fundamentals 3 teaches you how to make your dancing smoother and more connected.

You'll master the closed position and learn 8+ intermediate movements, including right-hand, anchor dips, facing basics, and shoulder roll combinations. More importantly, you'll begin connecting movements seamlessly while developing stronger timing, musicality, and styling.

This course transforms individual moves into complete dances and prepares you for the more creative combinations introduced in Fundamentals 4.

Fundamentals 3 meets Tuesdays 7:00–8:00 PM for four weeks during February, April, June, August, and October.

Prerequisite: Previous Fundamentals levels, equivalent private lesson experience, or a skills assessment with a Turn Their Heads instructor. Contact us for more info.

Fundamentals 4

Unlock Creativity

Fundamentals 4 introduces many of the signature movements that make Country Swing so dynamic and improvisational.

You'll learn 10–12 advanced combinations, including rides, rondes, tuck turns, slingshots, cuddle swaps, horse-and-carriage variations, and more advanced leading concepts. The emphasis shifts from simply executing moves to understanding how they connect together.

By the end of this course you'll have the freedom to create longer, smoother combinations while developing your own style on the dance floor.

Fundamentals 4 meets Tuesdays 8:00–9:00 PM for four weeks during January, March, May, July, September, and November.

Prerequisite: Previous Fundamentals levels, equivalent private lesson experience, or a skills assessment with a Turn Their Heads instructor. Contact us for more info.

Fundamentals 5

Dance with Confidence

Fundamentals 5 serves as the capstone of the beginner curriculum and introduces the first true intermediate-level concepts.

You'll learn 10+ advanced movements and combinations, including straight jackets, traveling slot combinations, shoulder catches, string-alongs, promenades, and more advanced connection concepts. These movements require greater precision, creativity, and confidence than anything covered previously.

By completing Fundamentals 5 you'll have the skills to comfortably social dance with experienced partners and will be prepared to continue into our advanced curriculum.

Fundamentals 5 meets Tuesdays 8:00–9:00 PM for four weeks during February, April, June, August, and October.

Prerequisite: Previous Fundamentals levels, equivalent private lesson experience, or a skills assessment with a Turn Their Heads instructor. Contact us for more info.
