Nashville’s Best Social Dancing
We are changing our weekly Thursday social to a once-per-month event with a spotlight showcase, potluck, prizes and more. The next one is scheduled for Wednesday, February 12th. There is no official entry fee. Guests are asks to make a donation of their choosing. Event will run from 7pm – 11pm. As usual, we will have line dancing and country swing all night long and all studios will be available for dancing. We will also have our usual Freeze Frame and Steals Circles plus hope to add in some pattern partner dancing that we haven’t done in a while. Theme for the spotlight dances is 80s love songs. If you’d like to participate in the spotlight, please reach out through any of our channels and tell us both dancers’ names and the song you are using. We will reach out for more details closer to the event. We hope to see you there!
General TTH Socials Format
In the main room, we alternate between line dance songs and country swing songs. Unless the floor is completely full, many swing dancers will be dancing around the outside edges of the dance floor all night long. The mix of songs depends on the crowd that night but generally is in the realm of 3:1 or 3:2 line dance songs to country swing songs since the hardcore swing dancers are dancing to nearly every song.
In addition to the regular dancing, we typically do two sets of country swing steals circles, a game or fun competition, plus a two step or pattern partner dance thrown in.
Line Dancing
Since we play requests, the line dances tend to lean heavily on the most popular dances. Most of the dances are high beginner level and above. You are welcome to hang in the back and try to figure out the line dances. We offer lessons for these dances before or during the social. Check out our Instagram for the time, cost and dance being taught each week.
If you are a beginner, we recommend checking out our beginners night on Saturdays. We perform easier dances and will be doing a walk through of each and every dance for the first two hours.
Country Swing Dancing
If you’ve seen this super-fun partner dance and want to try, or you are already passionate about it, we are the place to go. The country swing dancers dance around the edges of the floor during the line dances, or in the other two dance studios in the building. Based on the make up of the crowd, we alternate between line dances and swing dance songs. If you like to country swing dance, you’ll be able to dance all night long with everyone from complete beginners to Nashville’s top dancers.
Etiquette
We are a dance academy, not a bar. We do no sell alcohol (BYOB allowed) so the issues that come with that, like poor etiquette, are less of a problem. Regardless, we are focused on offering the best dance experience possible. We encourage proper etiquette like not standing on the dance floor and keeping the lane clear for the two steppers. Plus, since there is no alcohol being sold, you don’t have the issue of spilled drinks on the dance floor.
Come As You Are
We are friendly to everyone who wants to dance. We don’t care what you look like, what your dance experience is or what you are wearing. Come in sneakers…come in boots, it doesn’t matter. There is no need to buy any particular clothing to look a certain way. You will find plenty of people just like you when you come to our events. So come alone or grab your besties and come on out to learn how to country dance and make new friends.
Raffles and Giveaways and Fun Contests
We have raffles and giveaways at our events for free classes, private lessons, entry into another dance party, stickers, wristlets, souvenir cups and more. Plus we try to have fun, free, friendly contests at each party that have also have prizes.
All Ages Welcome
We are open to all ages. That being said, we need to create a safe dance experience. Our recommended age is 12 and up due to the complexity and speed of most dances.
Meet People and Make Friends
We have an amazing country dance community here in Nashville. The vast majority are friendly and welcoming to new people. Turn Their Heads staff and students are out dancing every night there is dancing so we literally know everyone in this town who dances. If you don’t know people when you arrive and are shy but want to meet new people, let us know. We will introduce you to lots of people to get you dancing and meeting even more people.
